Recommended Treatment Approach

Free oil and suspended solids are normally removed first. After pretreatment and antifoam evaluation, vacuum evaporation concentrates non-volatile oils and dissolved solids while producing a distillate stream. Additional polishing may be required before reuse or discharge because some organics can carry over with the vapour.

Suitable Applications and Important Limits

Potential feeds include spent water-based cutting fluids, coolant wash water, parts-washing wastewater and floor-cleaning liquids. Streams with solvents, low flash-point materials or highly volatile organics require separate safety assessment.

Actual volume reduction, energy use, distillate quality and concentrate condition depend on feed composition and operating conditions. Local reuse or discharge requirements must be confirmed for each project.

Technology Options

Low-Temperature Vacuum Evaporation — wastewater minimization and distillate recovery.

Scraped Vacuum Crystallization — further concentration of scaling, viscous or crystallizing feeds.

Integrated ZLD — pretreatment, evaporation, crystallization, separation and polishing as required.

Oil and grease, COD/TOC, pH, TDS/conductivity, suspended solids, surfactants, known solvents/additives, daily volume, temperature and current disposal cost.
