Why This Wastewater Is Difficult

Lithium, nickel, cobalt or manganese ions
Fluoride, phosphate and sulfate salts
Ammonia and high nitrogen loads

Mixed salts complicate crystallization and reuse

Recommended Treatment Approach

Treatment usually combines stream segregation, metal recovery or precipitation, ammonia and fluoride control, membranes and evaporation. Vacuum evaporation can reduce selected high-salinity wastewater or RO reject. Scraped crystallization may further minimize liquid discharge when mixed-salt behaviour has been confirmed by testing.

Suitable Applications and Important Limits

Applications vary widely between cathode materials, anode materials, electrolyte preparation, recycling and cell production. Solvent-bearing or reactive streams must be isolated and assessed separately; evaporation is not automatically suitable for every battery wastewater stream.

Actual performance depends on feed composition, operating conditions and the required reuse or discharge objective. Representative testing is recommended for complex or variable streams.

Scraped Vacuum Crystallization — further concentration of scaling, viscous or crystallizing feeds.

Integrated ZLD — pretreatment, evaporation, crystallization, separation and polishing.
